Sri Ganesha is the most revered of Hindu gods. Ganesha is seated comfortably on a throne in the Abhaya mudra hand position otherwise known as the "fear not" hand position with his palm is completely open showing he has nothing to hide. His other three hands hold a handful of sweets, a noose and an elephant goad. Goads (or elephant prods) are typically used to direct elephants. Goads are symbolic of how one should steer the soul away from the ignorance and illusions of this earthly world just as a mahout would steer an elephant away from any treacherous path.
